Widely used by officers during WW I, a small number saw service in WW II. Introduced in 1910 and discontinued in 1918, the Model 4 can still be considered a reliable pistol by today's standards. Over 250,000 were produced as official military pistols. This was the first commercially successful .32 caliber pistol designed by Walther and also his first use of a separate slide extension. Two slight variations will be encountered, both using the same magazine. Modifications most visible are the finger grooves on the slide. Early models had seven wide grooves, later models had 16 narrow grooves. Trigger bar was visible in early models, concealed in later guns.
