A modification of the model 29 designed by Rudolph von Frommer, pistols marked Femaru were made both in .380 and .32 by Femaru Fegyver es Gepgyar, R.T. Budapest, Hungary. Under German supervision the pistol was marked Model 37 and was made with a thumb safety in .32 caliber only by Metallwaren, Waffen U. Maschinenfabrik A.G. in Budapest. The original was made for commercial sale and Hungarian service use. The German supervised models were used as substitute German service pistols, primarily by the German air force. German orders for approximately 100,000 pistols were terminated in 1944 and production of the pistol ceased. German guns are marked "jhv", the German code identification for this factory. Quality is generally very good.
