This pistol was developed in 1937 and used during World War II, basically as a side arm of the SS officers. Twist lock barrel type of blowback operation, which often causes malfunctions because of heavy action with a light cartridge. Though used by the Germans, the pistols are not so marked. Production was not resumed at the end of World War II and it is thought that total production was approximately 50,000 pistols.
