Originally developed as a 7.65 caliber pistol in 1906, the caliber was changed to an underpowered 9mm parabellum cartridge in 1909. Because of its design deficiencies, it would not accept a full power 9mm cartridge. At this point it became the Italian service automatic, Pistola Automatic M910. In 1934 the current Beretta model pistol replaced the Glisenti; however, the pistols were in use through WWII. This pistol was submitted to the United States Ordnance Board but was rejected basically because of the underpowered cartridge. Manufactured only for a short time, this design was the basis for the Brixia.
